Freebyrd's Honda DOHC Chopper

For Dad

Clayton W. Steenberg October 12, 1923-August 29, 2003

This bike and these pages are dedicated to the memory of my father. Dad never rode a motorcycle in his life, except for the one time that my brother talked him into climbing on the back of his. Instead, he was a master at fabricating. Whether it was wood or metal, Dad could build it.

When I first decided I wanted to build a chopper, I intended this to be a father and son project. Dad could weld with the best, and I thought it would be a good way to spend time together. His health started failing, and it quickly became apparent that Dad wasn't going to be able to help build this bike. He succumbed to cancer two months after I started collecting the parts for this project.

It's still a father and son project though, as my 11 year old son Donovan has stepped into my role, and I in Dad's. Together, we are building this bike out of the love and admiration we both have for him.
